North Vancouver-based interior designer Michelle Poitras is the founder and principal of Lucien Marie Design, established in 2020. With 14 years of experience, she specializes in residential renovations, custom homes, and interiors throughout Vancouver and the North Shore.

Named after Michelle’s grandparents, Lucien and Marie, the studio reflects her appreciation for heritage, craftsmanship, and the connection between past and present. Particularly drawn to mid-century modern homes, she seeks to preserve original architectural character while reinterpreting spaces for contemporary living. Her warm, restrained aesthetic is defined by natural materials, thoughtful custom millwork, layered textures, and a considered balance of old and new.

Michelle’s background spans architectural interiors, heritage conservation, and luxury residential design. She began her career in 2008 at Robertson Simmons Architects in Toronto before moving into heritage architectural plaster conservation, contributing to the restoration of Ottawa’s historic Bank of Montreal building, now the Sir John A. Macdonald Building. Later, as a Senior Interior Designer at Jenny Martin Design in Victoria, she refined her approach to residential detailing, craftsmanship, and collaborative design.

Michelle believes successful interiors begin with understanding how people want to live. By balancing a home’s architecture with the needs and personalities of its occupants, she creates thoughtful, enduring spaces that feel personal rather than prescribed.

In 2025, Lucien Marie Design was recognized in Western Living’s Design 25 for the Mountainside Ski Home living room, Tranquil Retreat. Michelle’s work has appeared in Modern Home Magazine, Western Living, and The Spruce, with her expertise featured in Martha Stewart, Homes & Gardens, and Livingetc.
